This was one of the standouts of the third round of the
sshg_exchange. The premise was just so original and the way it was used so creative and imaginative. The Room of Lost Dreams contains records of just that, and one of the ones that linger in my memory were the hilarious “lost dreams” of the teenage Sirius Black. But this isn’t by and large humor, and the story basically dealt with Severus’ lost dreams, in a way both poignant and moving that provides one explanation of his canon character and how he might be able to move beyond it.
I did have one problem with the story. Hermione’s actions were not for me adequately explained given the dangers she knew. She’s perhaps a bit more impulsive here than I can completely buy even given her age. Despite that, everything else about the story is so completely winning, this shaped up as an absolute favorite I’ll never forget, and would reread with pleasure. A terrific yarn.
