The first drabble of the series at the top just killed me–all too easy to see. The rest just seemed so spot on in how Ron and Hermione would react. I can’t imagine Rowling would go for the hint at the end of more than friendship, but otherwise this could easily fit in as a “Missing Scene” in canon. Written pre-HBP.

I’m not sure what’s rarer–a drabble series rec from me–or a babyfic rec from me. I usually cringe at stories including themes of pregnancy or newborns–but the author rises this beyond the usual treacle with finely observed detail and character insight. Here, have a quote:

It isn’t that he doesn’t share her enthusiasm for parenthood. There’s no mistaking his appreciative expression when he gazes at Hermione’s full breasts and ripening belly, nor the look in his eyes as he stands in the doorway of the recently completed nursery, drinking in the sight whenever he thinks nobody else is watching.

The difference, she thinks, is that beneath his joy, there is always the fear. Outside the faint, fragile bubble of his hope, the demons are always threatening, potent and paralysing.

Read the whole thing. You’ll be glad you did.

I don’t often rec drabbles or drabble sets, and often a story dealing with such a heavy issue can go off the rails, either with over the top melodrama or polemic. So I appreciated the effective and moving way the author handled Hermione and Severus in this situation.
