This is a crossover with Dr Who (tenth Doctor) a show I don’t know well, but that didn’t stop me by being completely charmed by the picture of a wee Teddy Lupin at Christmastime.

The story does well in fleshing out the Next Gen characters. Particularly interesting is James’ relationship with Harry. The author shows the conflict very early on in a detail about their hair: James had shorn it super short so not to be mistaken for his day. The story is told mostly from Teddy’s point-of-view and his character–and yearning for something deeper with James is deftly written. The story is well-written–well-paced with a good narrative flow.

Story Summary: It was like a wizard tale. The clever Slytherin helps a hag who later repays the debt. Except that Rose Weasley wasn't a hag, and Scorpius didn't expect to call in the favour.

The story quickly presents Scorpius with a dilemma–Lucius wants him to follow in his footsteps and join a wizarding supremacy group. Well-written plotty tale with many a twist and turn that features an appealing Scorpius and Rose, that while definitely affected by their families’ legacies, aren’t at all Draco and Hermione stand ins. Appealing romance.

This is a companion story/sequel to Among Thorns, which was written for the first smrw_ficafest. You don’t need to have read the first story to understand this one, though, it stands on its own and in fact I haven’t read Among Thorns but thoroughly enjoyed this. This Scorpius isn’t some Draco clone but his own person, and from the first I enjoyed how the author used what Harry told Al to divert Scorpius’ and Rose’s destiny, and I like the friendship among the three of them. It’s both a good Next Gen tale about expectations and legacies as well as a enjoyable romance.

Stunning fic–engrossing from beginning to end with more than one twist I didn’t see coming. So much darkfic in fanfic is based on rape and squick–it’s great to see one that earns its chills from story. And it’s amazing how everything here fits.

This gave me a sense of the Teddy and Victoire that wasn’t just some knock-off of a combo between their parents but people in their own right. The prose is lovely and from the first the story conveys the longing and insecurity of Teddy while Victoire has been away. The ending is just pitch perfect.

This is a series of 25 vignettes, each set in a day of December leading to Christmas and featuring various Next Gen children: James, Lily, Hugo, Rose, Fred, Roxane, etc. Each was charming and conjured up the days of childhood and the Christmas season–and each left me with a smile.
